The Data Protection and Privacy Act of Uganda, 2019 is a comprehensive law that provides a framework for the protection of personal data in Uganda. The Act sets out principles for the collection, processing, and storage of personal data, and establishes a Data Protection Authority to oversee compliance with the Act. The Act also provides for the rights of individuals to access their personal data and to have it corrected or deleted.
The Act is based on international best practices and incorporates many of the principles set out in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) of the European Union. Additionally, the Act has been successfully implemented in Uganda, demonstrating its effectiveness in protecting the privacy of individuals. By analyzing and understanding this resource, data protection authorities in East Africa can gain insights into effective data protection mechanisms and develop or enhance their own legislation accordingly.
